Waterproofing guide for Bangalore homes
Most failed waterproofing jobs failed at diagnosis, not at application. Water travels along slabs and reappears metres from where it entered.

Find where the water enters
A damp patch on a bedroom ceiling rarely sits directly under the breach. Water enters at a crack, a failed drain collar or a parapet junction, then runs along the slab until it finds a path down.
Before anyone quotes, insist on a ponding test on the terrace and moisture meter readings on the affected wall. Without that, you are paying someone to guess.
Matching the system to the surface
Different surfaces need different chemistry, and price differences between systems reflect genuinely different performance.
- Acrylic coatings, ₹28–₹45 per sq.ft: exposed terraces with light foot traffic
- PU coatings, ₹60–₹120 per sq.ft: terraces with ponding, planters or regular use
- APP membrane, ₹80–₹140 per sq.ft: large slabs and podium areas
- Crystalline slurry, ₹40–₹70 per sq.ft: water tanks, sunken slabs and basements
Bathrooms and balconies
Most bathroom leaks trace to the sunken slab, the pipe collars, or grout that has turned porous. Regrouting with epoxy and sealing collars solves a surprising share of cases without breaking tiles.
Where the slab itself has failed, tiles must come up. Anyone promising a permanent fix from a surface coating over a wet slab is selling you another year, not a repair.
What a warranty should say
A real warranty names the system, the number of coats, the area covered in sq.ft, the duration, and who to call. A one-line promise of ten years with no product named is not enforceable in any practical sense.
