Interior painting cost in Bangalore: a real breakdown
Painters quote per sq.ft of wall area, not floor area. That single distinction explains most of the confusion homeowners run into when they compare numbers.

How wall area is calculated
A common working rule in Bangalore is that paintable wall area is roughly three to three and a half times the carpet area. A 1,000 sq.ft flat therefore has about 3,000 to 3,500 sq.ft of wall and ceiling to cover.
At ₹5.5 per sq.ft that puts a straightforward repaint around ₹17,000 to ₹19,000 before premium product upgrades. Anyone quoting on floor area is either much cheaper or quietly cutting coats.
Typical totals by home size
These ranges assume a repaint with one putty coat where needed, a primer and two emulsion coats, using mid-range washable products.
- 1BHK, around 600 sq.ft: ₹14,000 to ₹22,000
- 2BHK, around 1,100 sq.ft: ₹22,000 to ₹38,000
- 3BHK, around 1,600 sq.ft: ₹38,000 to ₹62,000
- 4BHK or villa, 2,500 sq.ft and up: ₹70,000 upwards
What pushes the number up
Full putty on fresh or previously distempered walls adds ₹3 to ₹5 per sq.ft. Premium washable and low-odour emulsions add ₹2 to ₹4. Textured feature walls, wood polishing and grill painting are separate line items and should never be folded into the wall rate.
Damp walls are the biggest variable. If a wall is wet, painting it is money spent twice. Treating the source first costs more upfront and less over five years.
Where quotes hide cost
Watch for scope written as covered separately: ceilings, cornices, wardrobes' external faces, balcony walls and utility areas. Each of these is commonly excluded from a headline rate and billed later.
