Exterior colour ideas that work in Bangalore light
A shade that looked right on the fan deck can read three tones lighter on a sunlit west wall. Here is how to pick exterior colours that still look intentional two summers in.

Sunlight washes colour out
Bangalore's afternoon light is strong and direct. Mid-tones lift noticeably outdoors, so a shade chosen indoors from a small chip almost always finishes lighter and flatter on a large wall.
Pick one step darker than feels right on the deck, and always test a full square metre on the actual elevation. Look at it at 10 AM, 3 PM and dusk before committing.
Combinations that hold up
Three schemes we get asked to repeat, each using a neutral body with one accent element rather than two competing colours.
- Warm grey body with charcoal window frames and teak-toned main door
- Off-white body with a single terracotta or ochre band on the projecting block
- Sand beige body with deep olive on balcony railings and the compound wall
Plan for monsoon staining
Water running off sills and balconies leaves vertical streaks on light facades within a season. Drip grooves under sills, plus a slightly darker band at the plinth, keep the wall reading clean between repaints.
Avoid pure white below the first floor on street-facing elevations. Splash-back from the road shows there first and never fully cleans off.
Texture as the accent
A textured band at the entrance or a stone-effect finish on one projecting volume does more than adding a third colour. It holds shadow, so the facade still has depth on overcast days when flat colour goes lifeless.
